MAYOR OF NOVI SAD HOLDS MEETING WITH THE AMBASSADOR OF AUSTRALIA

The Mayor of Novi Sad Žarko Mićin met today at City Hall with the Ambassador of Australia to Serbia, H.E. Peter Truswell, and extended a warm welcome to him.

Mr Mićin and Mr Truswell discussed the traditionally good relations between Serbia and Australia, noting that the Serbian community in Australia makes a significant contribution to Australian society and represents an important link and potential for further strengthening relations between the two countries.

They emphasised that, within bilateral cooperation, activities at the local level are of great importance, and identified education, culture, the IT sector and the economy as key areas for joint projects. Mayor Žarko Mićin stated that Novi Sad is making intensive investments in improving its business and investment climate and that it is a very favourable destination for investment. As he explained, 15 factories have been opened in Novi Sad over the past 14 years, and the total amount of realised foreign direct investment in the period from 2012 to 2026 is estimated at approximately EUR 400 million.

The Mayor also underlined that Novi Sad, as a multinational city, fosters very active international cooperation, particularly bearing in mind its recognition at the European level as a city of culture, youth and sport.

The interlocutors assessed that there are favourable conditions for establishing friendly relations at the city level and expressed their willingness to further enhance cooperation in the future.
