The Chenazy family gravestone

The Armenian Chenazy family gravestone is preserved in the city centre, near the place where the Armenian church in Novi Sad used to stand. Today this gravestone represents one of the most unusual motifs preserved in the modern urban environment. It was set up in 1790 and it used to stand in the churchyard. As the church was torn down in 1963 and its graveyard destroyed, the Chenazy family gravestone remains the only Armenian monument in the city that tells us something about the life of the Armenian community in Novi Sad. The dimensions of this cubic monument are 150/150/220cm and it was carved in pink marble by an unknown artist. The monument was designated as important cultural heritage site.
