CONSTRUCTION OF THE BICYCLE PATH AT THE SECTION NOVI SAD-RUMENKA-IRMOVO-KISAČ-ČENEJ – 1ST SECTION NOVI SAD – BRIDGE OVER THE DANUBE-TISA- DANUBE CANAL TOWARDS IRMOVO
On 19th May 2023, works on the construction of the first section of the Novi Sad – Rumenka – Irmovo – Kisač – Čenej bicycle path, the section from Novi Sad to the bridge over the Danube-Tisa-Danube Canal towards Irmovo in the length of 9.6 km started.
The value of this investment is RSD 213,627,987.46 and the completion of works is planned for the middle of March 2024.
This investment is of great importance for the City of Novi Sad because it represents the bypass of the international EuroVelo 6 route. In the final stage in the next period, Novi Sad will have a new bicycle path towards Čenej with the total length of 20.2 km.
The EuroVelo is a bicycle network composed of 15 long routes that cover and connect the whole European continent. In the section between Novi Sad and Bački Petrovac, bicycle paths are the part of the National Bicycle Route, which is also a planned bypass of the EuroVelo 6 route. The EuroVelo 6 cycling route starts in France and ends in Romania at the coast of the Black Sea. Its total length is about 3700 km. In Serbia, the route of the EuroVelo 6 follows the river Danube and it is also known by the name the “Danube Bicycle Route”.
The whole network of bicycle paths, which connects populated settlements at the territory of the City of Novi Sad, as the bypass of the EuroVelo 6 route, will allow foreign cycle tourists access to numerous tourist attractions not only at the territory of the City but also in suburban settlements. By the affirmation and the creation of conditions for the development of cycle tourism, the encouragement of faster and simpler movement of people, the development of sports tourism and ecotourism, the attractiveness and competitiveness of the tourist offer and the overall economic development of the region will be increased.
