MAYOR OF THE CITY OF NOVI SAD SIGNS THE GENDER-SENSITIVE BUDGETING DECLARATION

Mayor of the City of Novi Sad Mr. Miloš Vučević attended the signing ceremony of the Gender-Sensitive Budgeting Declaration. The Declaration was signed by the NALED Executive Director Ms. Violeta Jovanović, as well as by the representatives of 22 municipalities in Serbia which accepted the gender-responsible budgeting. The ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Construction, Traffic, Infrastructure Ms. Zorana Mihajlović, who also presides over the Gender Equality Coordinating Body.

- This year, the City financed training program for 80 women entrepreneurs together with the consultants we hired. The condition was they have owned entrepreneur businesses for the last three years. The training covered topics such as economy, marketing, as well as numerous others. According to the ''Start Up'' Program Registry of Self-Employment Incentives, the number of women these women is increasing, which is a good sign testifying that women want to be more active and equal partners in economic development – pointed out Mayor Vučević and added that the Declaration will only emphasize this budgeting.

Signing took place at the Government Building, while all the parties underlined that gender equality is one of the key conditions for further development of the society. Gender-responsible budgeting is and important step towards economic strengthening of women, while the priority being encouragement of women to take part in bringing important decisions when it comes to political and public life.
