NOVI SAD OBSERVES WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY

Assistant to the Mayor of Novi Sad Mr. Bojan Torbica attended the program dedicated to the World Down Syndrome Day, held at the Novi Sad City Hall.

- The City of Novi Sad continually supports not only the Association for Assistance to the People with Down Syndrome, but all other associations whose purpose is to assist and help people with disabilities, and this practice shall be maintained in future. Humaneness of any society is measured by the amount of aid it is ready to provide to those in need, so that all who receive it can exercise their rights and become equal members of the society. – said Assistant Torbica.

President of the Association Ms. Violeta Popović said that observance of the World Down Syndrome Day for the tenth time enables us to focus on the role of family and its contribution to full realization of the people with Down Syndrome.
- It is precisely this year’s slogan “My Opportunities, My Choices” – which emphasizes the importance of exercising full and equal rights and the role of family. Association’s activities are also reflected in the fact that free time should be used in a creative way by participating at various workshops, dance and sports, the activities for which the City Administration for Health provided considerable funds, mainly through various sport activities, preventive medical check-ups, as well as lectures on various medical topics.

Following the program prepared by the protégés, the  Association also presented their new book “Listen to Me when I Feel Like Talking”, created by the members of the Association with support from the City Administration for Culture.
