URBAN MOBILITY PROJECT "TRIBUTE" PRESENTED
The member of the City Council for Traffic and Roads, Aleksandar Kravić, attended the presentation of the Project " inTegRated and Innovative actions for sustainaBle Urban mobiliTy upgrade “. The City of Novi Sad, in partnership with seven cities and municipalities from the Adriatic-Ionian region (Milan, Ljubljana, Maribor, Zagreb, Patras, Sarajevo and Podgorica) within the "Interreg ADRION" program, participates in the international project "TRIBUTE".
Novi Sad is a city that has close to 155 thousand passenger vehicles, and if we add to that the vehicles that come to us from the side, 180 thousand cars circulate through Novi Sad every day. That's an extremely large number, especially when you take into account the old city centre where the streets are narrow and there are big traffic jams. The City's Public Transport Company has an extremely important role, which is part of the "TRIBUTE" project. Four years ago, the City adopted the Smart plan for the development and management of traffic in Novi Sad, which aims to encourage as many of our fellow citizens as possible to use public city transport and thus lead to a reduction in traffic congestion and pollution. The essence of this project is the exchange of experiences and technologies in terms of increasing the number of passengers in public transport and turning to alternative modes of transport - Aleksandar Kravić said.
The head of the City Administration for Traffic and Roads, Đorđe Basarić, said that the main goal of the project is to improve city transportation by developing more efficient transportation services and solutions for sustainable mobility adapted to people's needs.
"TRIBUTE" includes the identification of target groups, external conditions and technical requirements, needed to enable the inclusive use of innovative mobility solutions. Finally, an agreement on the Joint Transnational Strategy for Sustainable and Innovative Mobility in the Cities of the Adriatic-Ionian Region is foreseen. In accordance with the objectives of the project, the City of Novi Sad has implemented a pilot project based on the creation of an application for smart mobile phones and the installation of monitors at seven bus stops on line number 4, which will provide users of public bus transport on that line with information about bus arrivals and departures in real time and based on data from vehicles in which GPS devices will be installed. In addition, users of the "EasyGO NS" mobile application will receive information about alternative modes of transportation (e.g. public bus and/or taxi transportation and/or bicycle transportation and/or walking) in order to meet individual needs in a sustainable manner. Novi Sad "Living Laboratory", in which the participation of all relevant entities in the field of traffic is planned, enables support for the implementation of the project in its entirety - Đorđe Basarić said.
