RECEPTION FOR IVANA ŠPANOVIĆ AT THE CITY HALL

Mayor of Novi Sad Miloš Vučević received today at the City Hall a Serbian National Team athlete Ms. Ivana Španović, who just won the European Long Jump Champion Title at the Prague Indoor Championship. Our best female athlete in long jump discipline Ivana Španović achieved this victory by setting the new national and personal record of 6.98 m, excelling thereby her previous personal best for 6 cm.  At the reception were also present Member of the City Council in charge for Youth and Sport Mr. Predrag Svilar, President of the AC Vojvodina Assembly Mr. Zoran Vučević, as well as members of Ivana’s team – athletic coach Mr. Goran Obradović and Manager of AC Vojvodina Mr. Stevan Zorić.

- Every year we are particularly privileged to receive Ivana Španović and her team, following their arrival from world and European championships, from where she returns with even brighter medals. None of us was immune to Ivana’s jumps and tears of joy during the Prague Championship. We, as supporters and spectators, wish Ivana two things – good health and a bit of luck, while she with her team will take care of the rest. I am fully convinced that soon we will have reason to celebrate again in the years to come. Citizens of Novi Sad often forget who lives in our city – from distinguished athletes to celebrated artists. I am sure Ivana has a variety of cities to choose from where she could train, but the fact that she lives, works and trains with her team in Novi Sad is our city’s great privilege. – said Mayor Vučević and, on behalf of the City of Novi Sad, congratulated Ivan Španović her gold medal and the success at the last competition.

Ms. Ivana Španović thanked the Mayor for the reception and support which City extends to athletes, emphasizing that there are numerous great championships and competitions where she will give her best to achieve best results for her country.

- I am overwhelmed because of the gold medal from the Prague Indoor Championship and new National Record. Although I have numerous opportunities to train anywhere in the world, precisely as the Mayor noted, I am very glad to work here in Novi Sad, where I have ideal conditions both for the summer and the winter season. All this gives me a lot of security, as well as the opportunity to continually prepare for all competitions world-wide. We continued with the string of medals and I see no reason why I should not return from each competition with medals. – stated Ivan Španović.
