OUTSTANDING STUDENTS FROM NOVI SAD HONOR SERBIAN HERITAGE ON CORFU

Fifty of the best students from all elementary schools in Novi Sad are currently visiting the island of Corfu as part of an educational study trip, for which the City of Novi Sad has allocated three million dinars this year.
On their first day, the students were welcomed in the ceremonial hall of San Giacomo, where they were greeted by Spiros Chalikopoulos, Deputy Mayor of the City of Corfu. After a heartfelt welcome, the students performed songs that commemorate the period of the Serbian army’s stay on the island, as well as one Greek composition. They also visited the Corfu Music School, where a concert was organized in their honor, followed by time spent socializing with their Greek peers. The second day of the trip included a visit to the Serbian House Museum, where curator Ljubomir Saramandić held a lecture. The students then visited the island of Vido, toured the Mausoleum–Ossuary, and paid tribute to the fallen heroes by laying wreaths at sea, at the site known as the Blue Tomb (“Plava grobnica”), while performing the national anthem and the song “There, Far Away” (“Tamo daleko”) in chorus.
Today, the students continue their journey, traveling from Corfu to the Meteora monasteries, and will conclude their study excursion with a visit to the Serbian Military Cemetery at Zeitenlik in Thessaloniki.
This educational study trip is organized within the framework of the City’s Program for the Advancement of Education Quality, which over the past four years has included 188 elementary school students from Novi Sad. For this purpose, the City has allocated approximately ten million dinars from its budget.
