NOVI SAD STRENGTHENS CULTURAL TIES WITH INDIA THROUGH THE PROMOTION OF A MAJOR WORK ON THE RG VEDA

Maja Čeremidžić Šainović, member of the City Council in charge of Culture, attended the presentation of the book “Rg Veda – An Insight into the Epitome” by Dr Momir Nikić. The publication is a major work that, for the first time, presents a translation of the oldest Indo-European text from the original into Serbian, highlighting the deep linguistic connections between Sanskrit and the Serbian language. The book is the result of many years of research by Dr Nikić and continues his previous works, including “The Sanskrit–Serbian Dictionary” and “The Linguistic Roots of the Serbs”. The promotion took place at the premises of the publishing house “Prometej”, which is also the book’s publisher.
In a discussion with the Ambassador of India, His Excellency Abhishek Shukla, who attended the event, Čeremidžić Šainović emphasised the importance of Dr Nikić’s work for preserving scholarly accuracy and illuminating the linguistic links that have connected the two nations over centuries. She also noted that culture and science represent one of the strongest bridges between Serbia and India, underlining that Novi Sad, as a city of culture and dialogue, remains a reliable partner in deepening this cooperation.
The project was carried out with the support of the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, and the event was attended by numerous representatives of cultural and public life.
