NOVI SAD RECEIVES SUPPORT FOR THE EUROPEAN CULTURE CAPITAL 2021 CANDIDACY

- We support and encourage your efforts to become the European Culture Capital 2021, and I hereby invite you to visit Pécs in September and present us the projects you intend to include in your application for this prestigious title. – said the Mayor of the City of Pécs Mr. Zsolt Páva, in his letter addressed to the Mayor of the City of Novi Sad Mr. Miloš Vučević.

Pécs, which won this title in 2010 is still enjoying long-term positive effects in the areas of tourism and cultural development, as stated in the letter of Mayor Páva, ascertaining that the two cities are quite similar, boasting rich cultural heritage and vivid, progressive multicultural scene.

- It was an exceptional pleasure to cooperate with Novi Sad at the time Pécs was preparing for the European Culture Capital year, and a very concrete outcome of our close cooperation is the Twinning Agreement signed in 2009, so we were able to commence our European Culture Capital season as true partners. – emphasizes Mayor Páva in the letter addressed to his colleague in Novi Sad. Mayor Páva also states fantastic joint cultural projects such as Jazz Bridge which are, as the letter states, still remembered. Novi Sad Candidacy for the title is an exceptional opportunity to continue and improve cultural cooperation between the two city’s institutions and artists.

Mayor Páva has also offered to share his team’s experience and assistance, many of whom participated and prepared the Pécs bid, and who are thoroughly acquainted with the procedures, institutions, as well as the entire Danube Region.

- I sincerely hope I will be able to welcome you very soon as the European Culture Capital. – stated Mayor Páva in his letter addressed to the Mayor of the City of Novi Sad Mr. Miloš Vučević.
