NOVI SAD DELEGATION ON FIRST OFFICIAL VISIT TO SHIRAZ, IRAN, ON THE OCCASION OF CITY DAY

Deputy Mayor Đurađ Jakšić and Assistant Mayor Ivan Siler, on the occasion of Shiraz City Day, are on their first official visit to the Iranian city, twin city of Novi Sad.

As part of the visit and celebration of Shiraz Day, Jakšić and Siler attended the official reception of foreign delegations, where they congratulated Mayor Muhammad Hassan Asadi on City Day on behalf of Novi Sad Mayor Žarko Mićin and all Novi Sad residents and presented him with a special gift.

- There are numerous solid reasons to strengthen the ties between our economy, science, culture, and communities, as the shared present compels us to safeguard and honor our allies. I wish you peace and stability as you embark on the routes of achievement and prosperity, which are navigated more securely with the help of friends. I am confident that the bonds of friendship between our cities will continue to deepen in the years to come, just as the camaraderie between our peoples will also grow – emphasized Deputy Mayor Jakšić.

The itinerary for the visit allowed the Novi Sad delegation to foster and strengthen ties with officials from Shiraz, while also providing a distinctive insight into Iranian culture and the warmth of its people. Alongside the extensive cultural program, they toured Persepolis and the Zand Dynasty complex, both of which are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Mayor of Novi Sad, Milan Đurić, and the Mayor of Shiraz, Muhammad Hassan Asadi, signed a Cooperation Agreement on June 27, 2023. In this agreement, both parties demonstrated their intent to solidify collaboration through joint initiatives in scientific and educational fields, health and social services, youth policies and sports, culture, as well as environmental protection and preservation.
