MISSION project Public Event – 1st Stakeholder Meeting

The inaugural Stakeholder Meeting of the MISSION Project took place on November 20, 2024, at Politecnico di Milano, bringing together key experts and stakeholders from the transport sector. The event served as a platform to explore the transformative potential of Mobility as a Service (MaaS), focusing on the integration of mobility services—particularly public transport—by leveraging ongoing initiatives and achievements across Italian cities.

The meeting featured a diverse group of participants, including representatives from industry, public administration, and academia. Among them were Giulia Rossetti from PluService, Luigi Osmetti from AMAT Milano, Salvatore Di Dio from the University of Palermo, and Simone Caiello from the University of Milano-Bicocca. Additionally, the Secretary General of the Forum of Adriatic and Ionian Cities (FAIC), Councilor Anna Maria Bertini, contributed her vision for innovative strategies to address the pressing challenges of sustainable mobility in the Adriatic-Ionian Region.

The event showcased groundbreaking projects and forward-thinking ideas poised to shape the future of urban mobility. Through collaboration and knowledge-sharing, the MISSION Project aims to drive innovation and support a sustainable, integrated mobility ecosystem for the cities of tomorrow.

Highlights from the Meeting
The discussions during the meeting were enriched by insightful contributions from key speakers. Giulia Rossetti from PluService reviewed emerging technologies for integrating transport services, offering a private sector perspective on the pivotal role of companies in developing effective MaaS solutions. Simone Caiello, representing the Italian National Centre on Sustainable Mobility (MOST – Spoke 8), highlighted MaaS-related initiatives with a focus on understanding demand preferences for innovative services. He also presented pilot projects underway in Milan. Salvatore Di Dio from the University of Palermo emphasized the significance of user-centric design in promoting MaaS adoption. He discussed how nudging techniques can influence user behavior towards more sustainable mobility choices. Luigi Osmetti from AMAT Milano, the Mobility Agency of the Municipality of Milan, shared insights from the “MaaS for Italy” program, which involves six major cities and seven regions. He discussed lessons learned from pilot implementations, shedding light on challenges such as stakeholder collaboration, technology readiness, and fostering inclusivity.

These thought-provoking contributions underscored the diverse expertise driving the MISSION Project’s efforts to revolutionize mobility across Italy and beyond.
