MAYOR MIĆIN ATTENDS OPENING OF NEW “MILOŠ CRNJANSKI” PRIMARY SCHOOL IN NOVI SAD’S SATELLITE DISTRICT

The Mayor of Novi Sad, Žarko Mićin, attended the official opening of the new building of the “Miloš Crnjanski” Primary School in the Satellite district of Novi Sad, together with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia, Prof. Dr Đuro Macut, and the President of the Provincial Government, Maja Gojković. Mayor Mićin highlighted that the opening of the new school is the result of long-term and responsible planning, as well as the clear commitment of all state institutions to investing in education.
- I am proud that today Novi Sad, along with the students and teachers of this school, receives the most modern school facility in Serbia, built to the highest international standards. This is a unique smart building featuring its own control centre, a green roof, and interior greenery. It is especially significant that Novi Sad and ‘Miloš Crnjanski’ School received such a facility, as the school maintained continuity of teaching under very difficult circumstances, when education in Novi Sad was otherwise disrupted. I would like to congratulate the headteacher and the entire staff once again. They truly deserve this outstanding facility. I am confident that nowhere else will children have better conditions for sports activities than in this school, which includes two gyms and multifunctional spaces for various sports. I thank President Gojković for the Provincial Government’s funding of this project, and Prime Minister Macut for the continuous support that the Government of the Republic of Serbia provides to the entire education system in Novi Sad. We will continue investing in education. By mid-year, we will open a school in Jugovićevo with a capacity of 600 students, complete a new gymnasium at ‘Laza Kostić’ Grammar School, and equip the gym at ‘Desanka Maksimović’ School in Futog. The extension and equipment of the ‘7th April’ Secondary Medical School has also been completed, representing a comprehensive investment in education. This year, we have also allocated a separate budget specifically for school maintenance, especially for older buildings - said Mayor Mićin.
The school is fully accessible to persons with disabilities. President of the Provincial Government Maja Gojković emphasised that construction, which began at the end of December 2023, has been completed and that the magnificent new facility in Satellite is now ready to serve students.
-The new building, covering 12,000 m², is three times larger than the previous school. The project is of strategic importance for the Province and has been implemented in phases. The first phase included the construction and equipping of the school. This is an example of how 21st-century schools in our country should look. Significant resources and effort have been invested in this school, including over three billion dinars from the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina’s budget. Once the move from the old school is completed, full-scale teaching will begin, followed by the second phase — the demolition of the old building — and the third phase, which will include the construction of outdoor sports facilities - said Maja Gojković.
Prime Minister Prof. Dr Đuro Macut emphasised that investment in education is one of the key priorities of the state.
-This is a unique school in Serbia with an outstanding residential and campus-like concept. Given the facilities for sports activities, this is also an ideal opportunity to promote the return of sports to schools, helping to reduce children’s excessive use of electronic devices, while positive legislative measures will encourage greater participation in physical education -said Prime Minister Macut.
The visit was also attended by the President of the Novi Sad City Assembly, Dina Vučinić; Member of the City Council for Education, Milica Vučićević; Assistant Minister for Preschool and Primary Education, Ivan Ćilerđić; Vice President of the Provincial Government and Provincial Secretary for Education, Robert Otot; and Deputy Provincial Secretary for Education, Legislation, Administration and National Minorities, Slađana Bursać.
