EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK MARKED IN NOVI SAD WITH A NUMBER OF EVENTS

Every year, from September 16 to 22, Novi Sad hosts the European Mobility Week. This year, Milan Đurić, the Mayor of Novi Sad, was present at the event. The event slogan is "Let's Move Better," and an abundance of activities, including a course on "Traffic Rules for Cyclists," a First Aid Workshop, safe driving instruction, and a program called "Bicycle Safety Check," have been planned for guests on the plateau at the "Promenada" mall.

- It is with great pleasure that Novi Sad is hosting this year's European Mobility Week's main event. We are attempting to encourage people to choose cleaner, non-motorized modes of transportation in the City over cars by a number of means, of which this is only one. Novi Sad is known as a cycling City, and in the last ten years, the number of active cyclists has increased from 10,000 to around 50,000. Our local self-government is the first in Serbia to assist its inhabitants in purchasing bicycles; over the last four years, we have helped people buy about 6,500 bicycles. There are currently 140 kilometers of bike lanes in Novi Sad, and more are being constructed all the time. In Novi Sad today we have as many as 140 kilometers of bicycle lanes, and we continue to build new ones and reconstruct the existing ones - said Mayor Milan Đurić.

The Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation in Serbia, Plamena Halacheva, participated in a "Critical Mass" bicycle ride through Novi Sad to mark the occasion.

Additionally, a discussion titled "Bicyclists ask the City" was held as part of the scheduled events. During the event, Plamena Halacheva highlighted that Novi Sad is one of the 35 cities in Serbia that are taking part in the European Mobility Week, and that Serbia is one of the 44 participating countries in Europe.

- We should all, by personal example, contribute to a higher quality of life in our communities, and these activities support the idea of common space in urban life - said Halacheva.

The Novi Sad Cycling Initiative, the EU Delegation in Serbia, the European House Novi Sad, the Olympic Committee of Serbia, the Agency for Traffic Safety, the Public Transport Company Novi Sad, "Decathlon"  Serbia company, as well as NGO’s  “Čepom do Osmeha”, and "Tour de Fruška" are among the event organizers in addition to the City of Novi Sad.
