CONSTRUCTION OF BEGEČ ROUNDABOUT STARTS TODAY
Mayor of Novi Sad Mr. Miloš Vučević visited construction works at the Begeč roundabout, located at the Culture Center, followed by a visit to one of the agricultural households in this suburban settlement. The construction works, taking place on the site of the currently existing conventional four-way intersection of Partizanksa and Kralja Petra I Streets, commenced in the middle of June, with the purpose to increase traffic safety.
- What is most important for the residents of Begeč and the entire city, what has been awaited since 2008, is finally being realized, and that works on the most significant Begeč intersection have started. This is an entry-exit road for Novi Sad, which means it is highly overburdened, since Partizanska Street is part of the State Road 1st Class, Novi Sad-Bačka Palanka main route. The entire value of construction works for the roundabout is approximately 25 million RSD, the works are under the supervision of ZIG, performed by PUC “Put”, and are due to be completed by the end of August. The roundabout will be finalized, above all, with the aim to improve safety of traffic participants, paying special attention to functionality of the road and traffic flow optimization through Begeč. A lot of work has been done in the settlement, while numerous other works are in progress. The largest number of investments are by PUC “Lisje”, “City Greenery”, and “Put”, all this strictly coordinated with the Local Community. We have constructed the bocce-playground, renovated the sports facility, a new children’s playground is being constructed, an open-air gym, as well as field roads. – said Mayor Vučević before, accompanied by his associates, visited the Medveđ Family agricultural household in Begeč.
The household is the largest carrot producer in Serbia. The Mayor visited the household’s reefer and its mechanization, while the host Janko emphasized that his household annually produces up to seven thousand tons of carrots.
- In Begeč, we pay a visit to the largest carrot producers, whose annual export exceeds the amount many countries produce in an entire year, and he had been waiting for years to see his field roads completed. After these were completed, his work is certainly less difficult. This is the true attitude and relation towards our fellow citizens who work, earn their living, pay their taxes and contributions – said Mayor Vučević, adding that the City has been solving these issues in Begeč in unison with the Local Community, and that now we all hope the people will continue to show initiative and suggestions regarding solving problems, and that the only direction will be towards development.
Experts of the PC “ZIG”, in cooperation with the City Administration for Roads and Traffic, have designed a new project of traffic regime alterations, in order to disturb the traffic as least as possible on the Novi Sad-Bačka Palanka road. With this solution, the two-direction traffic will be kept for as long as possible, thereby preventing disturbances on the main road. Traffic regime alterations will be harmonized with the contractor, and in case it is necessary, temporary alternating traffic directions will be introduced.
Partizanska Street and Kralja Pera I Street will be widened in the roundabout zone, drainage of water will, as up to now, be solved by applying open road channels, while also bus niches will be constructed immediately after the roundabout.
