NOVI SAD HOSTS YET ANOTHER GREAT VOLLEYBALL SPECTACLE

Member of the City Council in charge for Sports and Youth Mr. Predrag Svilar, together with the Head of the Mayor’s Office Mr. Aleksandar Petrović, welcomed the President of the Serbian Volleyball Association Mr. Aleksandar Boričić, Vice-President Mr. Vladimir Grbić, and Marketing Director Mr. Zoran Avramović. At the ceremony, Mr. Petrović received on behalf of the Mayor Vučević, the trophy awarded for exceptional cooperation and contribution to Serbian volleyball and its development. The trophy is awarded by the Serbian Volleyball Association.

- It is my great pleasure to have the opportunity to accept this trophy on behalf of our Mayor, the trophy brought to us by volleyball legends. Novi Sad is a city of volleyball, we accomplished excellent results in the previous year and we shall do our best to support the sport and be good organizers and hosts of large-scale sport events. – stated Mr. Petrović.

According to Mr. Boričić, good-quality communication and cooperation between the Serbian Volleyball Association and local self-governments is of the utmost importance.

- Mayor Vučević, together with his associates, greatly contributed to successful organization of large-scale sport events and manifestations in Novi Sad, such as the World League and Beach Volley European Championship. This year in June, Novi Sad will host yet another beach volleyball tournament, as well as the World League series. Due to World Federation’s strict standards, these games can only be played in Belgrade and Novi Sad. We expect a large number of spectators, and hope to reach the finals. – said Mr. Boričić.

Association’s Vice President Vladimir Grbić also added that without the assistance of local self-government, Serbian Volleyball Association – although highly recognized and respected as one of the six best world federations – would not be able to organize such competitions. He also emphasized that Novi Sad, apart from being an exceptional organizer, represents a city which is eager to put a lot effort and invest in volleyball, thereby contributing to the unbroken and consistent development of volleyball, for which we are so recognizable.

As part of the World League Series, Serbian national team competes with national teams of Brazil, Italy and Australia. Member of the City Council in charge for Sports and Youth Mr. Svilar underlined that Novi Sad volleyball clubs are achieving excellent results, but also that within the League’s younger categories there are 30 both men’s and women’s clubs. He also concluded that it makes perfect sense that Novi Sad hosts the World League Series and welcomes world’s most successful national teams.
